Welcoming back the East Elevation
Please welcome back the east elevation of the Portrait Gallery! As far as we can tell the new paint colour matches that chosen when the building first opened in 1889. The site huts you see are being moved there to allow us to widen and re-lay the (cracked concrete) pavement along Queen Street. We will also remove the (not very) old ramp from the side door and promote entry to all at the front door. Stand by for images of this in the New Year!
Inside, here are some welcome colours in the top floor galleries . . . .
. . . . and the parquet floors are brushing up nicely.
The lift “car” has arrived from Italy which is something of a relief to me. Here it is being assembled.
And the lift shaft glazing is in. (All done with kindness and a piece of string . . . . . . )
