Roughing it at the Portrait Gallery

July 1, 2009

The Portrait Gallery has been a hive of activity this week as artists and musicians contributing to our Festival exhibition Rough Cut Nation set to work. There was a huge buzz around the gallery as we  bounced ideas around and began to paint, paste and project images straight onto the walls.

I was slightly nervous chairing this first workshop/meeting as  it was the first time many of the artists had met, never mind worked together so it was a relief to see everyone getting on so well. No egos in sight yet…unless of course, you count mine. I am in the somewhat enviable position as besides my usual role as  NGS outreach officer, I am getting to curate/organise this exhibition as well as contribute to it as an artist.  I may need a reality check come September…

To add to the excitement the whole thing was filmed by Beanland films who are making wee shorts of the project. Keep an eye out for them as well as updates and more images as the project unfolds in the coming weeks.
