Exciting News!

Back in the Portrait Gallery this morning to meet our minister, Fiona Hyslop, with the quite brilliant news that Scottish Government has given the Portrait Gallery an additional two million pounds!

This wonderful news means that we have now reached the first milestone of our fundraising campaign, to collect £17.6 million to refurbish the Portrait Gallery building in time to reopen on St Andrew’s day this year. We  will continue with our various fundraising campaigns, The Gallery of Stars, Take your Place in History and Put Yourself in the Picture to help us put on the lively programme of exhibitions, events and educational projects which will make the building and its collection come alive.

After the long winter we have all had in Scotland this news really makes me feel that spring has arrived. So if you haven’t already bought a star or put yourself in the picture don’t feel we don’t need you your support.  We do! Because with it we can make the Portrait Gallery ever more interesting and exciting; playing its full part in the life of the nation.
